It is incredible that Buddy Vedder lends himself to this: the TV talent currently provides the most embarrassing segment on Dutch TV. “But we just keep going!”, shouts Caroline Tensen.
One against 100 has been the TV classic for years in which Caroline Tensen assists candidates who have to outplay a hundred people in the audience. A tried and tested format that is now suddenly used to do all kinds of crazy antics. Buddy Vedder was added to the show from scratch to create all kinds of funny, crazy intermezzos.
Buddy stays
It’s really cringe-inducing, so when Tina Nijkamp saw the call for candidates for the new season of One Against 100, she came to a somewhat firm conclusion: she only saw Caroline in that promo, so she assumed that Buddy would have been discharged. But according to the presenter, that is not correct.
Caroline says at the desk Dear Viewers: “Not at all. Can I straighten it out right now? So I put out a call for new candidates, but I’m doing that alone, because I’ve been doing that alone for years, so why suddenly with Buddy? So I think I said to De Telegraaf: ‘Oh, he wasn’t there, oh, so he’s not in the new season.’”
‘It’s not like that’
Caroline says Tina is talking nonsense. “Look, that’s how social media works, right? And then it’s there and then that’s how it is. It’s not like that. I can’t wait for the new season and Buddy is there, because I really like Buddy.”
Colleague Tijl Beckand jokes: “So you’re going further with Buddy?”
Caroline: “Hahaha.”
Harmful
Tina thinks it is inconvenient and harmful to Buddy. “Oops. Caroline and Buddy return as a duo at Een tegen 100.
Buddy wasn’t allowed in the new call-in promo for the show, but still returns with his so-called ‘scientific’ items. This decision is unfortunate for the ratings and for Buddy Vedder’s career.”
She continues on her analysis channel: “Rarely such cringe seen on TV. Advice for Buddy: don’t do it, it’s a shame for your career to then be taken seriously as a presenter. Too bad about your talent. It comes across as fake and that ‘Diederik Jekel role’ does not fit the quiz.”
Clown role
Fellow TV critic Rob Goossens completely agrees. “It has become a bit of a clown role that he has been given. I don’t think it really contributes to Buddy Vedder’s reputation to put it very carefully,” he says at the desk of RTL Boulevard.
He continues: “I think the RTL bosses are very fond of him and then I would say: limit the damage and don’t let him become the wild card of Dutch television.”
Preschool TV
Yesterday we saw Buddy parading across the screen again in some crazy outfit in the latest One against 100. Tina is relentless: “Dear RTL management, can you please intervene? This is not possible????!!!!”
“Save Buddy and One against 100! This is simply the WORST TV program of 2026 because the show thinks the viewers are toddlers. Vicarious shame!”
