“Few games are remembered”
Thomas Müller: Wish for the World Cup has nothing to do with the DFB
June 2, 2026 – 8:56 p.mReading time: 2 minutes

As an expert for Magenta TV, Thomas Müller will accompany the World Cup. He announces his first missions and wants to talk about a topic as little as possible.
Thomas Müller has specific wishes for the World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico. “Intense games, commitment, fairness. Sport shows itself at its best and connects people,” writes the 36-year-old in his monthly newsletter. Another point is particularly important to him: “That as few games as possible are remembered in which the referee was the focus.”

In the past few weeks there have been repeated discussions about the performance of Europe’s top referees in crucial Champions League games. Only Felix Zwayer from Germany will referee games. At the start of the tournament, 52 referees were nominated by FIFA, as well as 88 assistants and 30 video referees.

The fact that 48 teams will be taking part for the first time makes Müller even more excited. “That means more nations, more unknowns that you don’t even have on your radar because of the name.” He is looking forward to a “cool football summer, with great games, exciting conversations and hopefully many special moments.”
