Roma, 27 Apr. (askanews) – Exclusive fashion and outfits, luxury, witty but at the same time vulnerable characters still in the collective imagination, music, rhythm, New York and Milan. From April 29th, “The Devil Wears Prada 2” directed again by David Frankel arrives in theaters, 20 years after the worldwide success of the first chapter. Not a simple sequel but an “update” to a new context of crisis in print journalism, with companies cutting staff, fashion shows and photos that are seen almost only online, with the same protagonists grappling with new ways of working and new problems.

“Everyone is 20 years older in the new film – said the director – and what they face in life is very different, and the world of media and fashion is very different. I think in the first film everyone was a little naive. They thought that this wonderful world would continue forever, but that’s certainly not the case.”

Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci return in their roles of the fearsome Miranda, Andy, Emily and Nigel respectively. Andy returns to Runway after years as an investigative journalist, to try to revive the magazine and at first it seems like dejavu. But there are also many new characters, played among others by Justin Theroux, Lucy Liu, Kenneth Branagh, Simone Ashley. The cast, after a world tour to promote the film, from Mexico to New York, passing through South Korea, Japan and Shanghai, had its European premiere in London. And Anne Hathaway, who has more than 47 costume changes in this chapter, talked about her excitement at reprising the character:

“I think 20 years ago Andy Sachs was really worried about doing things right and really wanted to please her boss, now I think she just wants to be herself, and I really identify with her in that.” “I’m very grateful to be at a stage in my life where I’m less focused on the things that make me nervous and more on the things that make me feel great. And 20 years ago I didn’t know how to do that,” she said.

And Aline Brosh McKenna, writer and producer of the film added: “The first time we had a lot of problems convincing designers to work with us, we had Valentino. But now we have several very important designers with cameos, but I don’t want to spoil the surprise for you.”
