Wiesbaden steals three points from Osnabrück (3 min)

VfL Osnabrück suffered another setback in the 3rd league on Saturday. Coach Timo Schultz’s team lost 0-1 (0-1) to SV Wehen Wiesbaden at home.

So far this season, VfL has always responded to a defeat with a win. A week after the 4-1 defeat in Verl, that didn’t work for the first time. A success that afternoon would not have been deserved for Lower Saxony.

As has often been the case this season, the Osnabrück team’s problems on Saturday were primarily on the offensive: either they played too complicated – or they lacked the ultimate determination when the opportunities presented themselves. A decent defensive performance and a wonderful long-range shot from captain Fatih Kaya (33′) were enough for the Wiesbaden team to win.

Due to the defeat, VfL missed making up ground on MSV Duisburg (2:3 in the top game in Cottbus) and SC Verl (2:2 against Havelse). The next chance to put pressure on the teams will be next Friday with the guest appearance against relegation-threatened SSV Ulm 1846 (7 p.m., in the NDR Livecenter).

VfL is improving and has chances…

The initial phase at the Bremer Bridge belonged to the guests. The team of former Osnabrück and Braunschweiger Daniel Scherning was defensively compact and repeatedly switched quickly. Kaya (6th) and Ryan Johansson (9th) had their first goals for the SVWW.

The Schultz team had a hard time getting into its routine. At the latest 30 meters from the Hessian goal, the team acted too imprecisely. The fans of the purple-whites had to wait for 28 minutes for their team’s first opportunity, which then came as a hat-trick: Robin Meißner’s shot was blocked (29th), before Patrick Kammerbauer’s first header was denied by SVWW keeper Noah Brdar (30th) and the second one was shot wide of the goal under pressure (32nd).

…but Kaya scores fantastically for Wiesbaden

The Osnabrück team were finally better in the game – and a little later they were behind. After winning the ball high, Kaya was played around 30 meters in front of the VfL goal, didn’t hesitate and slammed the ball into the net over the bewildered VfL goalkeeper Lukas Jonsson (33′). A dream goal!

How would Lower Saxony react to the deficit? Briefly shocked, then powerful! Meißner shot from the half-left position, but Brdar dived into the left corner and made a strong save (38′). Pause.

SVWW more determined than Osnabrück

After the restart, the Osnabrück team tried to control the game and speed, but the final move to the goal was missing in many situations. The 59th minute was symbolic: David Kopacz had free space on the right side, but then hesitated for too long. His attempt from the inside is more likely to be recorded in the statistics as a stronger pass than as a shot. A little later, the right winger and center forward Meißner played out the next situation sloppily.

And Wiesbaden? Defended consistently and suddenly appeared in front of Jonsson again. In desperate need, the goalkeeper cleared a sharp cross from Niklas May from the left side (62′). Four minutes later, Hamburg native Ole Wohlers missed the guests’ second goal by centimeters with a shot from the right side of the box.

Bremer Bridge: A changing myth (2 min)

Nobody wants Ihorst’s back pass

The Schultz team’s efforts could not be denied. Once again it was clear that there was a lack of creativity and concentration in the final third. Would you like one last example? Substitute Luc Ihorst came through strongly on the right side and played a good back pass from the baseline. However, he only found one SVWW defender because both Osnabrück players who were running along decided to run in exactly the same route (80′). A good quarter of an hour later it was over – and the second defeat in a row was certain.
