Joe Hisaishi and the cover of his new record
Joe Hisaishi, the Japanese composer of Studio Ghibli animated films and director Hayao Miyazaki, is releasing his debut album, A Symphonic Celebration, on June 30th. The disc features symphonic arrangements of his original anime film soundtracks. Including classics like “Spirited Away”, “Princess Mononoke” and “My Neighbor Totoro”.

After the first three single releases (a rewrite of the streaming hit “Merry-Go-Round of Life” from the Studio Ghibli production “Howl’s Moving Castle”, a rewrite of “Mother’s Broom” from “Kiki’s Delivery Service” and “A Town With An Ocean View, another title from the latter) now follows “Ashitaka and San” from “Princess Mononoke”.

The new album, available on CD and vinyl, was recorded in London with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra under his own direction, after Hisaishi rearranged them for symphony orchestra.
